Biology


Ledyba is a coleopteran insectoid Pokémon that looks like a ladybug. Its elytra are crimson with five black dots; the pattern varies somewhat from individual to individual. The wings are completely translucent. It has a yellow main body and lower jaw, and a crimson remainder of its head. It features a pair of black antennae and huge, spherical eyes. The female's antennae are shorter than the male's. It features six black legs and white boxing gloves for hands.

Ledyba is a gregarious Pokémon that like to interact in big groups. It gets hesitant and reluctant to move if left alone. It is also very cold sensitive, therefore it forms clusters with other Ledyba for warmth. It communicates by secreting a fragrant fluid from its feet and leg joints. The fluid shows its location and transmits emotion; if Ledyba is furious, it will smell foul. It has been seen in the anime to play a part in pollinating the fruit-producing plants of the Pokémon world, and it is generally directed to do so by way of a special whistle. It will, however, react to normal voice orders, as do most Pokémon. In temperate woods and jungles, Ledyba makes its nest on leaves and joins forces with other Ledyba to guard its home when necessary. They sleep in groups of four, as shown in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Rescue Team DX.
