Pokémon GO Safari Zone Yokosuka 2018 Event is Here!


Trainers, the Safari Zone Yokosuka, which will run from August 29 to September 2 JST in Kanagawa Prefecture, Japan, is already ongoing. The last event in the Pokemon GO summer event series is Yokosuka SF, which is also the last event we must finish to get the legendary Ultra Bonus.

The event includes Tropius, a Yokosuka-only special research quest line, and other elements.

Update 8/29/18: The Yokosuka Special Research tasks and rewards have been revealed:

  • Spin 3 PokeStops or Gyms – x3 Super Incubator

  • Catch 10 Slakoth – Slaking

  • Hatch 3 Eggs – 3000 XP

Trainers, the last Pokemon Go Summer Tour 2018 Safari Zone event will begin on August 29 and run through September 2 in Yokosuka, Japan. This event will unlock additional goodies and the Ultra Bonus Unlock, the event's final level.

The Yokosuka Pokemon Go Safari Zone event will take place at the Mikasa, Verny, and Kurihama municipal parks. Some Pokemon that spawn more often during the event include Tropius, Unown, Feebas, Torchic, and Wingull (which may also spawn more frequently globally and be shiny). On September 1 and 2, Professor Willow's Global Challenge will also go online. As a result, new missions for the Safari Zone will be available, and players must complete them in order to unlock additional perks.

Be ready, and let's open the Ultra Bonus prize together when the event goes live this week!

Rumor has claimed that the Ultra Bonus will launch in September, the same month when Mewtwo was initially made known to the whole globe through Ex Raid invites. This led me to thinking that, in honor of the Special Ultra Bonus' first birthday, Mewtwo and its shiny form may be unlocked for everyone (granting everyone Ex Raid Passes).

Live events are nothing new to Pokemon Go. Apart from a disastrous launch in Chicago last year and a successful follow-up this month, Pokemon Go has hosted more than six Safari Zone events in countries ranging from Taiwan to the Netherlands.

 

The most recent Safari Zone is now located in Yokosuka, Japan, a port city about 90 minutes outside of Tokyo. The city of Yokohama claimed the month of August for a Japan event last year, but decided against holding a follow-up event this year because excessive participation resulted in traffic issues and delays in 2017. Yokosuka, on the other hand, has embraced Pokemon Go with open arms.

IGN went to the Safari Zone's opening ceremony, which was held by Yokosuka's mayor, before the celebrations got going. It was evident that Yokosuka values its collaboration with Pokemon and takes it seriously from the city's proudly displayed Pokemon Go jersey during the ceremony. In response, Niantic and The Pokemon Company are embracing Yokosuka, showing their complete support, and even sending the Pikachu and Eevee mascots, who made a surprise visit.

Yokosuka was breathtaking, and I've been to Pokemon Go events in Chicago and throughout Europe. There was a huge walking trail that covered a significant amount of the city, which was represented in-game by groups of PokeStops. Verny Park, Mikasa Park, and Kurihama Hana no Kuni, a floral park, served as the event's three main zones. Each park acted as a central location for the event, hosting in-game registration and uncommon Pokemon spawns like Tropius, an animal found only in Africa, and Unown (a Pokémon that resembles letters and spells the word YOKOSUKA GO!).

While these parks were the main attractions, support for the Safari Zone was widespread across the city. Local stores showed posters for Pokemon Go, and some even distributed stickers and stuff. Pokemon Go music was played over speakers all across the city, while posters promoting the event were strung from lampposts on busy streets.

 

Niantic dispersed event Pokemon over the whole city, including uncommon Pokémon like Feebas and the Hoenn starters and Pokemon with potential shiny versions like Pikachu, Eevee, and Swablu, to avoid the cellular connection bottlenecks from prior live events. Moreover, shiny Wingull and Pelipper were added to the game around this time, and to commemorate this, Wingull spawns were increased all across the city.

Moreover, new Special Research for Yokosuka was made available during the event, which was previously only available on quests to find Mythical Pokemon. The study at Yokosuka was designed to promote exploration of the area by giving players the tasks of hatching three eggs—which can only be accomplished by walking—and collecting ten of the uncommon Pokemon Slakoth, Ralts, and Beldum. The prizes were enormous and included 100,000 Stardust, fully developed spawns of Slaking, Metagross, and Gardevoir that are generally difficult to locate in the wild, as well as the elusive Rare Candy.

The game operated beautifully for the period owing to extra temporary cellular towers deployed across the city by service providers including Docomo and SoftBank, even though Niantic hasn't officially disclosed attendance figures for the first day.








 




After going to multiple Pokemon Go events, I've decided that this one is my new favorite because of Yokosuka's serene coastal style, gorgeous ocean vistas, and the apparent excitement of the city. This seemed like the ultimate pinnacle of Pokemon Go events, especially when you consider the amazing in-game awards, and I hope Niantic can repeat it when it hosts more events in the future.

Biology Medicham is a humanoid, bipedal Pokémon that resembles a yoga practitioner. It has a gray body with red and yellow adornments. A red headpiece with three bulb-like extensions covers the upper portion of its head: one on top and one on either side. The bulb on top is short on a female Medicham. Its large, focused eyes are slightly covered by the headpiece, and its red lips seem to be in a rounded or puckered position. Its legs appear to be covered with puffy, red pants that have a large yellow spot on the knees and yellow bands next to the hips.
