Biology

Hariyama is a huge, muscular Pokémon inspired by sumo wrestlers. It has wide ears and tiny eyes. It has a small, triangular crest on its head. A long ponytail of dark blue hair develops over the tops of its eyes, around the head crest, and down its back. The top half of its body is cream, while the bottom half is dark blue. Yellow extensions form a skirt around its waist. In the middle of its body, right above the skirt, there is a little orange half-circle marking. Hariyama has huge, three-fingered hands and short, two-toed feet. Its hands and feet are also orange. Hariyama's physique is largely made up of muscle rather than fat. When its muscles strain, they become as hard as stone. It enjoys sparring with other large-bodied Pokémon and may pound the ground to increase its own strength. Its enormous slapping arms can send trucks flying, break telephone poles in half, and even halt trains. They are nice and courteous, applauding their fight opponents. It concentrates more on training Makuhita as it becomes older. It is found in mountainous places. Hariyama and its pre-evolved form, Makuhita, are the only known Pokémon capable of leveling up and learning the move Smelling Salts. Arm Thrust was also one of their defining techniques prior to Generation V.
