Earth Day 2018 Event

Before the April 22 Earth Day events, trainers may sign up for clean-up activities and make donations to the Mission Blue Foundation now.

Niantic, Inc. and Playmob On April 22, are collaborating to hold the first-ever Pokémon GO Environment Day Clean Up. The Pokémon GO Environment Day Clean Up effort consists of a number of activities that will take place in different parts of the globe and invite the Pokémon GO community to work together to clean up their local environments and communities. Trainers will also have the chance to contribute to the Mission Blue Foundation, a worldwide alliance working to promote public understanding of, access to, and support for a network of marine protected areas.

The Pokémon GO Environment Day Clean Up activities will be held by Niantic and regional NGOs all around the globe. Playmob, a gaming-for-good group, will coordinate these events in conjunction with regional NGOs in each community. Local Trainers from each neighborhood will get together for each Pokémon GO Earth Day Clean Up event to concentrate on collecting trash and waste in public areas that need major labor.

To commemorate Earth Day, every Trainer will have access to a special avatar item, and those who join forces to take part in global cleanups will be able to earn special in-game benefits for everyone. During 48 hours, 2x capture Stardust for Ground, Water, and Grass-type Pokémon will be unlocked if 1,500 Trainers participate in the events worldwide. Trainers all over the globe will be able to capture three times as much Stardust for Ground, Water, and Grass-type Pokémon over a period of 48 hours if more than 3,000 Trainers take part in the cleanup activities.

On April 22, Niantic will host a Global Cleanup event in collaboration with Mission Blue. There are more than 30 neighborhood cleaning campaigns happening in 12 different nations.

These cleanup activities, which are sponsored by neighborhood organizations, include working with other Trainers and members of the neighborhood community to collect garbage and clean up natural areas. Niantic is offering a selection of in-game goodies as a part of this campaign. The in-game prizes will be made available 48 hours after Earth Day officially begins.

What is Earth Day?

Every year on April 22, Earth Day is observed. Since 1970, a variety of events have been organized all around the world to show support for environmental conservation. The greatest civic event in the world, with over 1 billion participants.

Why is Niantic doing this?

Together, we can have a significant positive influence on the planet and help people safeguard the seas for future generations.

Led by legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle, Mission Blue is uniting a global coalition to inspire an upwelling of public awareness, access and support for a worldwide network of marine protected areas known as Hope Spots. Pokémon GO has a "Mission Blue" event to coincide with Earth Day, even if it differs somewhat from previous events. This is true of the rest of the globe as well. In order to get certain in-game Stardust benefits this year, Niantic is urging consumers to check into sponsored cleaning activities. In comparison to the game's huge worldwide reach, the number of events is quite minimal, but you should check this list to see if there's an event near you. In that case, you may go unlock some Pokémon GO awards and tidy up while you're at it.

The number of players that check into these events determines the in-game awards. We will all get double Stardust from Ground, Water, and Grass-type catches for a brief period if 1,500 individuals check in. We will get quadruple Stardust from those same sorts if 3,000 gamers check in. Prizes will be given out today at some point and will be valid for 48 hours.

A fascinating extension of Pokémon GO's real world/virtual world dualism is this Earth Day event. We've had comparable unlocked awards in the past, with November's Global Catch Challenge serving as the most prominent example, but those rewards were always related to in-game activity. We'll let you know when awards become available, but I have no doubt we'll be able to reach the 3,000 trainer mark with ease, particularly with this many events. It's not difficult to picture a few hundred players attending some of the events in major cities. I'll be out as it seems like Winter may have finally released the Northeast from its icy death grip.
