Torkoal is a quadrupedal tortoise-like Pokémon. It features a massive, black, rock-like shell with holes that light red. It has reddish-brown skin and gray-black streaks on its legs and neck. It has a lengthy neck and its eyes seem to be closed all the time. Torkoal lives in mountains and volcanic environments, where it searches for enormous coal resources.
