Lapras in Miyagi 2019 Event

Lapras in Miyagi 2019 Event is Here!

Lapras in Miyagi was a regional event held in Miyagi, Japan. The occasion marked Lapras' appointment as Miyagi Ambassador.

After Slowpoke and Sandshrew in 2018, Lapras was just appointed as a new Pokémon ambassador for 2019. The charming Transport Pokémon will become the official symbol of Miyagi Prefecture in Japan's Thoku region in October 2019. For Pokémon fans, Lapras-themed merchandise, events, and activities are in the pipeline. There will also be special Pokémon GO activities from October 19 to November 4, such as boosted spawns of Lapras and Shiny Lapras.

Lapras, Miyagi's official mascot Pokémon, is preparing to start a new autumn and winter campaign beginning November 1 to encourage people to visit Miyagi via the installation of new Poké Lid manhole covers, a stamp rally around the prefecture, and other events.

Following the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster, the gentle Pokémon assisted in the restoration of Miyagi Prefecture in Thoku. The water Pokémon was the focal point of Pokmon Go's first in-game event, luring collectors to Miyagi, Iwate, and Fukushima.

After the Miyagi government recognized Lapras as Sendai's official support Pokémon, the collaboration became a popular tourist attraction. The incident is being commemorated by the exhibition of Lapras rowboats at Michinoku Lakeside National Government Park and Hanayama Seishnen Ryokmura campground.

Posters and guidebooks

Tourist information centers, important tourist facilities, and major stations on the JR East Japan Railway and JR Hokkaido Railway will offer guidebooks featuring Lapras illustrating things to see and do in Miyagi Prefecture during fall and winter.

New Lapras Poké Lids

As part of Japan's continuing Poké Lids campaign, new Lapras-themed Poké Lids will be distributed in 20 towns surrounding Miyagi beginning in early December via Poké Lid project to place Pokémon manholes around the country. This will bring Miyagi’s total count up to 35. Tottori Prefecture recently added Sandshrew and Sandslash lids, and Fukushima welcomed Chansey designs in August.

All of the Poké Lids put in Japan contain fully unique Pokémon designs, making each one unique in the globe. The Pokémon Company is also working on converting each of them into PokéStops for Pokémon GO.

Miyagi Stamp Rally

From November 1, 2020 until March 1, 2020, a stamp rally will be organized, with participants traveling around Miyagi Prefecture to collect all of the stamps for a chance to win rare gifts.
