Holiday 2018 Event

The Christmas Holiday event for Pokémon Go has arrived. It follows the example set by the Halloween event earlier in the year by bringing a wave of new Gen 4 animals based around the holiday in question for users to capture, in this case predominantly Ice-types and some baby Pokémon. In addition, it brings back the Delibird, one of Gen 2's latecomers, the seasonally attired Pikachu, free incubators, and other wonderful advantages like additional Candy or XP at certain moments as you catch this holiday.

Pokémon Go Christmas event - Holiday 2018 end date and times

The Pokémon Go Holiday event began on December 18th at the following times:

  • UK: 9pm (BST)

  • Europe: 10pm (CEST)

  • East Coast US: 4pm (EDT)

  • West Coast US: 1pm (PDT)

The Holiday 2018 event will finish on January 2nd, 2019, most likely at the same timings as before, but it also contains several time-limited incentives with set start and end times (more on them below). Here's a brief glance.

Pokémon Go Holiday sub-event start and end times:

  • 2x Candy for catching and transferring Pokémon - December 18th - 22nd

  • 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon - December 22nd - 26th

  • 2x XP for catching Pokémon - December 26th - 30th

  • 2x Egg hatching speed - December 30th - Jan 2nd

Although the other benefits listed below - including once again the likes of Santa Hat Pikachua and Gen 2's Delibird - will be time limited, any new Gen 4 Pokémon featured in the event will be permanent additions to the game, similar to Halloween.

Snover, shiny Delibird and other Pokémon coming as part of the Pokémon Go Christmas Holiday event

Other well-known characters are returning for the event, like Santa Hat Pikachu and the Christmas-themed Pokémon Delibird, which is also available to capture this time in a shiny form.

A few new Pokémon have also been announced to appear in the Christmas Holiday event, but less than the record-breaking 21 new Pokémon that were included in the previous iteration. Of course, they are all Gen 4.

Sadly (and oddly), it seems that the Ice-Type Gen 4 evolutions Mamoswine and Froslass are no longer exclusive, therefore the list of new Pokémon you may catch is below!

Use Daily Adventure Incense elsewhere to increase your chance of running across Galarian Articuno, Galarian Zapdos, and Galarian Moltres.

Other Pokémon Go Christmas Holiday event bonuses, including free incubators

In addition to a few new Gen 4 Pokémon, Delibird's comeback, and Holiday Pikachu, the event will also debut:

  • Increased Ice-type Spawns - For the duration of the event. Includes: Sneasel, Swinub, Snorunt, Jynx, Spheal, and new Pokémon Snover.

  • Increased chance of hatching 'baby' Pokémon in 7km Eggs - For the duration of the event. Includes: Azurill, Smoochum, Riolu and new additions Munchlax, Chingling and Mantyke.

  • Free, single-use Incubators - For the duration of the event. Earned by spinning a Pokéstop or Gym disc, once per day for the first spin of the day.

  • New Delibird-themed cosmetic items - For the duration of the event. Delibird sweater, gloves and boots availabled.

  • New Shinies - Azurill, Marill and Azumarill now have shiny versions available. There's also a shiny version available for Delibird and Santa Hat Pikachu.

  • New raid boss - A nice bait-and-switch from Niantic: it's not any of Uxie, Azelf or Mespirit (pictured in the event image). Instead, the powerful Fire- and Steel-type Heatran is the new Legendary Raid boss, replacing Cressalia.

  • Time-limited event bonuses

    • 2x Candy for catching and transferring Pokémon - December 18th - 22nd

    • 2x Stardust for catching Pokémon - December 22nd - 26th

    • 2x XP for catching Pokémon - December 26th - 30th

    • 2x Egg hatching speed - December 30th - Jan 2nd

The additional Candy for transferring is particularly useful if you've been holding onto rare or legendary Pokémon to transfer at this particular moment. Plenty of really useful benefits, then. Therefore make sure you maximize the value of such mini-events.

A wonderful opportunity to attempt and snag one of those new baby Pokémon added to 7km Eggs will be the enhanced egg hatching speed event towards the finish, so Star Pieces and Lucky Eggs will come in useful, as well as those additional Incubators that could be worth keeping onto!

It's now the right time of year for ice Pokemon to emerge from their eggs. The Pokemon GO Holiday Event has begun, and it offers greater opportunities to meet ice-type Pokemon, as well as a brand-new festive appearance for Pikachu. We'll go through everything that's new for the event in this article, along with the start and finish hours.

To begin with, getting ice Pokémon is simpler during the Pokemon GO Holiday Event periods. The concerned Pokemon are:

  • Jynx

  • Sneasel

  • Swinub

  • Snorunt

  • Spheal

  • Snover

  • Delibird

Moreover, the Picture Disc spin will get you a free one-time Incubator. You are able to hatch fresh baby pokemon from 7km eggs using such unique incubators. Which are:

  • Chingling

  • Mantyke

  • Munchlax

  • Azurill

  • Smoochum

  • Riolu

Please take note that the 7km eggs holding such Pokemon will only be available during the beginning of the event and up until its conclusion. A dazzling Delibird and a brand-new festive Pikachu may also be discovered in the wild. The timings for the events will now be discussed.

Pokémon Go Holiday event start times:

  • UK: 9pm (BST)

  • Europe: 10pm (CEST)

  • East Coast US: 4pm (EDT)

  • West Coast US: 1pm (PDT)

The finishing timings are the same as they were on January 2. Niantic has other sub-events in store for us in addition to those. It may be very useful to transfer Pokemon using double candies.

Additional Pokémon Go Holiday event start and end times:

  • 2x Candy for catching and transferring Pokémon – December 18th – 22nd

  • Double Stardust for catching Pokémon – December 22nd – 26th

  • 2x XP for catching Pokémon – December 26th – 30th

  • Double Egg hatching speed – December 30th – Jan 2nd

What's new in the Pokemon GO Holiday Event

Just to mention, Cresselia is no longer part of the Tier 5 legendary raids. Heatran will be the next raid boss instead, which is a welcome break after all those really difficult legendaries.

Trainers,

With the return of the Delivery Pokémon, Delibird for Pokémon GO Holidays 2018, the cheer and happiness of the holidays are returning to the world of Pokémon GO!

Trainers may also get a free single-use Incubator once daily by spinning a Picture Disc on a PokéStop until January 2 in order to aid hatching over the Christmas season.

There will be a ton of extras offered during the event to keep the festivities going! Trainers will get double Candy for capturing and transferring Pokémon from December 18 to December 22. Get double Capture Stardust from December 22 through December 26 to help your Pokémon gain strength. Get double XP from December 26 through December 30 when you capture Pokémon to advance your Trainer level before the new year! Last but not least, Incubators will function twice as effectively from December 30 to January 2. To take advantage of all these amazing advantages, make sure you visit often.

Are you looking forward to spreading Christmas cheer? The Delibird-themed sweater, gloves, and boots will be available on December 18 in the Style Store. Dress up your avatar with these!
