Biology

Beedrill is an insect Pokémon that looks like a bipedal yellow wasp, except it only has four legs instead of six and lacks pigment pits. The head of a beedrill is spherical, with a slightly pointed mouth, bright red eyes, and black antennae with a sharp bend in the centre. It has long, conical stingers on its forelegs. It supports itself with its other two legs, which are lengthy, segmented, and insectoid in structure. Beedrill has two sets of rounded, veined wings as well as a stinger on its yellow-and-black striped abdomen.

Beedrill is fiercely territorial, and unlike genuine bees, they live in colonies rather than true "hives," and they collaborate to solve fundamental issues such as food, territory, and reproduction (behavior more akin to wasps than bees). As shown in the anime, Beedrill seems to be particularly concerned with the well-being of Weedle and Kakuna, and it will react forcefully to anyone who bother them. If one Beedrill is disturbed, the whole colony will attack. It flies quickly and strikes with deadly stingers on its forelegs and belly. Twineedle was its trademark move before to Generation V. It will return to its nest to feed on the victims of its assaults. Beedrills build their nests in temperate woods and foggy forested places.

It becomes more defined as Mega Beedrill. The antennas are shorter and fashioned like a T. Its eyes get longer and more slender. It now has three sets of wings, the largest of which has a black trim at the top. Its stingers grow longer and bigger until they resemble lances. Its legs are replaced with additional conical, black-and-yellow stingers with white ends. Its abdomen expands, gets grooved, and is joined to its thorax by a black structure. Its head and thorax are linked by a similar black structure. The stinger on its abdomen is now a light yellow color, and it has black stripes all over its body. The stingers on its limbs contain fast-acting venom, while the tail stinger creates slow-acting poison that is used to terminate opponents. Instead, the immediate poisons are meant to keep the enemy from leaving.

Trivia

  • Normally, evolved stages of Pokémon cannot be shiny in the encounter screen, but with the introduction of its Mega Evolution, Beedrill has been able to.

  • Prior to the debut of Mega Levels, Beedrill could Mega Evolve into Mega Beedrill after being granted 100 Mega Energy at first, then 20 afterwards.

What counters Beedrill?

  • Mewtwo,

  • Hoopa (Unbound),

  • Deoxys (Attack),

  • Reshiram.
