Pokémon GO Safari Zone Taiwan 2018 Event






Niantic has kicked off the latest Pokémon GO Safari Zone event, which is officially taking place from November 1 to November 5 in Tainan, Taiwan, at the Tainan Metropolitan Park and the Chimei Museum. Throughout the city of Tainan, Trainers can now find rare Pokémon not normally seen in Taiwan, such as Relicanth, Unown, Anorith, Bagon, Swablu, Pinsir and more. Shiny Pinsir has also made its Pokémon GO debut. This is a free event to be enjoyed by all Trainers, so be sure to enjoy it while it lasts.

According to the Tourist Bureau of Tainan City Government, more than 65,000 trainers (Pokémon GO players), including foreigners, attended the first day of the Pokémon GO Safari Zone event yesterday (Nov. 1) in the southern Taiwanese city of Tainan.

Typhoon Yutu's (Jade Rabbit) remnants had little impact on the first day of the "Pokémon GO Safari Zone in Tainan," which drew over 100,000 enthusiastic trainers to Tainan City as a whole and over 65,000 to the major locations. Tens of thousands of foreign instructors joined the Taiwanese ones. They came from Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the United States, Australia, Israel, Russia, Germany, and Sri Lanka, among other countries.

Several of the international trainers who visited Taiwan for the first time stated they traveled directly to Tainan for the Pokémon GO event, with many intending to remain for the whole five-day event. A trainer from Australia said that after visiting the Confucius Temple yesterday, he will use the Pokémon GO map to explore Tainan over the next days.

Tainan residents also came out in large numbers to search for uncommon Pokémon. They marveled at the Chimei Museum's architecture and beautiful lakes while taking in Eevee and Pikachu's stage performances and catching uncommon Pokémon like Swablu, Pinsir, Relicanth, and Bagon.

Visitors also flocked to the PokeStop and the Nintendo Switch Popup Zone in addition to Eevee and Pikachu's stage performances. Others were also on the hunt for the free paper Pikachu and Eevee hats that were distributed at eight various points across the major venues.

From November 1 to November 5, the Tainan Metropolitan Park and the Chimei Museum will host the Pokémon GO Safari Zone event. According to Tainan's tourist agency, the event will take place in the two major locations as well as 30 hotspots around from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day. Almost 200,000 people are expected to attend the five-day festival, according to the Tainan administration.

Participants will just need to visit the locations by displaying the Pokémon GO app on their phones, and they will also qualify for a NT$150 discount on entrance to the Chimei Museum. Other locations include the banyan garden at National Cheng Kung University, Chigu Salt Mountain, Jingliao Old Street in Houbi District, and Tainan Confucius Temple, among others, in addition to Tainan Metropolitan Park and Chimei Museum.

The main arena features a free charging station sponsored by Samsung and a free water stand put up by PChome because of the flood of mobile phone users. Also, there is a food zone with over 100 vendors serving a variety of meals and snacks, including braised pork, zongzi, and tea eggs, every day of the festival until 8 p.m.

The five-day festival is anticipated to draw in the most attendees on Saturday and Sunday. Trainers are encouraged to either take Taiwan High Speed Rail (HSR) to Tainan HSR station or Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) trains to Tainan Railway Station and then take a bus to Bao'an Station () due to the lack of parking spaces close to the main venue in the Tainan Metropolitan Park.

The Tainan Metropolitan Park is a 10-minute walk from Bao'an Station. Also, the Tainan Tourist Bureau has set up complimentary shuttle services between the Sugar Mall and the Tainan HSR station. To all trainers, the event is free.

 

Trainers, a new Safari Zone 2018 event has been announced, taking place at the Chiyi Lantern Festival in Taiwan, from February 26 to March 3 2018. The event is hosted by the Chiayi County government and it extends around Puzi City and the rest of the Chiayi county.

The Mayor of Chiayi confirmed that Unown letters C, H, I, A, Y, G, X and F will be making an appearance and that shiny Magikarp rates will be significantly increased (source Facebook post).

Niantic has also extended their thoughts and condolences to those affected by the nearby earthquake: “We hope those lanterns will bring the people of Taiwan comfort, and we sincerely wish you healing and a strong recovery.”

This is the first Safari Zone event in 2018 and it’s encouraging to see Niantic working together with local government and official authorities, as these interactions can bring local Pokémon GO to a new level of public awareness and engagement.

The Pokemon Company and Niantic have announced the next Pokemon GO Safari Zone event, scheduled to land in Tainan, Taiwan this November.

The event will take place from November 1 to November 5, 2018. Pokemon not normally found in Taiwan, such as Relicanth, Unown, and even a Shiny Pinsir will appear at Tainan during the duration of the event. As with previous Safari Zone events, this one will be free for all.
