The Lunar New Year 2018 celebrations are already underway in China and throughout the globe, and Pokémon Go gamers may now join in on the fun.
The Year of the Dog event began yesterday and will end on February 17th at 1pm PST. This year's in-game party is all about those canine pocket monsters, as you would assume given the theme.
During the event, any trainers who capture a dog-like Pokémon will earn extra Stardust.
Growlithe, Poochyena, Snubbull, Electrike, and (the finest of the group) Eevee make up the quartet of puppies.
To be honest, it's a pity that Niantic hasn't completely committed to the idea by bringing back the Legendary dog trio to Raids. It's also interesting that the event's bonus list excludes the adorable mean-looking Houndour.

Niantic also revealed the addition of a new shiny type Pokémon to Pokémon Go - a shiny Poochyena (which implies you'll be able to develop it into a shiny Mightyena).

My Thoughts About The Lunar New Year 2018 Event
The Valentine's Day event in Pokemon Go is coming to a close, but a new one has started in the popular mobile game. Niantic has launched a Lunar New Year event in Pokemon Go, rewarding players with benefits when they capture particular dog-like Pokémon. To commemorate the start of the Year of the Dog, Pokemon Go players will get three times the usual amount of Stardust when capturing Poochyena, Growlithe, Snubble, Eevee, or Electrike. During the event, all of the aforementioned Pokemon will spawn more often. But, like the Valentine's Day celebration, the Lunar New Year event will only be available for a limited time, from February 15 to 17. In Taiwan, Pokemon Go users may take part in a distinct Lunar New Year event. Niantic is holding a Safari Zone event during the Chiayi Lantern Festival from February 26 to March 3.
