Trapinch Community Day is Here!
The October Community Day event in Pokemon GO is only a few hours away, which means gamers are thinking about the elusive Pokemon Trapinch and its evolutions. Pokemon GO users will get three hours on the weekend of
October 12, 2019 to capture as many of the
Gen 3 Ground-type as possible and increase their collection with shiny spawns, evolutions, and perhaps a few more surprises.
The core concept of Pokemon GO Community Day is simple: go out and capture a ton of pokemon for three hours, but things are different this time. For those that want a little more guidance, we've put up a detailed handbook with all the information you'll need for the big day.
Keep in mind that if you haven't already, now would be an excellent opportunity to obtain that gold Ground-type badge. The badge isn't particularly difficult to get for long-term players, but this is an excellent chance for younger players to catch up.

Start and End Times
Beginning in
February 2019, Community Day activities will always take place on local time, regardless of where you play. This time, the event will take place
from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. local time. This is a much earlier Community Day than normal, but it should make for a lively early afternoon!
Special Move
Earth Power
Make sure to evolve during the active time window (within an hour of the event ending) if you want to secure it.
Bonuses
- Increased Trapinch spawns
- 3x Catch XP
- 3-hour Lure Modules
Limited Time Field Research
According to recent revisions to the game's programming, this Community Day, like last month's, will briefly provide unique Field Research activities that focus on the highlighted Pokemon. If you wish to view
these missions, make sure you claim your prizes and clear a spot for them.
Update: Pokemon Go's October Community Day has ended, but a new event is slated to begin shortly in the game. Niantic has finally released information on this year's Pokemon Go Halloween event. The celebrations begin on
October 17 with the emergence of an unique dressed Pokemon, Shiny Yamask, and the introduction of a new Legendary, Darkrai. The original story is below.
Pokemon Go Community Day has finally come in
October. This month's event takes place today,
October 12, throughout the globe, and as usual, it provides players with a limited opportunity to capture some uncommon Pokemon, earn a unique event-exclusive move, and take advantage of other in-game advantages.
Each Pokemon Go Community Day normally lasts three hours, however the event specifics change month to month. To help you prepare for this month's Community Day, we've compiled a list of everything you need to know about October's event, from its start timings and featured Pokemon to the unique event-exclusive move you'll be able to learn.
What Is October's Featured Pokemon?
Each Community Day features a different "featured Pokemon," which will spawn in the wild far more often than usual during the event. Trapinch, the termite-like Ground-type from
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, is the featured Pokemon this month. Not only will Trapinch be considerably easier to discover during October's Community Day, but you'll also get your first opportunity in the game to meet a Shiny Trapinch. These, on the other hand, will be scarce, so if you want to capture a Shiny Trapinch, you'll have to be patient.
What Is October's Special Community Day Move?
Aside from enhanced Pokemon spawns, each Community Day provides you the opportunity to win an unique event-exclusive move. If you can develop the featured Pokemon into its
final form before the conclusion of the event, it will automatically know an attack that it would not have learned otherwise in Pokemon Go.
This month's special move is
Earth Power, a Ground-type strike. The Pokemon will know
Earth Power if you can develop a Trapinch all the way to a Flygon up to two hours after the Community Day finishes. This applies to every Trapinch you develop, regardless of whether you captured it before the event. However, Flygon will only learn
Earth Power if it develops within the time limit—so if you capture a Trapinch during the event but don't evolve it until the next day, it will not learn the attack.
What Time Does October's Community Day Start?
October's Community Day, like
last month's, will take place early in the day, from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time. That means you'll have until 4 p.m. local time to develop Trapinch and learn the Community Day move.
What Other Bonuses Are Available?
You'll be able to take advantage of a few more perks during October's Community Day, in addition to higher Pokemon spawns and the unique event-exclusive move. To begin, capturing Pokemon during the event will provide you three times the regular amount of XP. This is true for any creature you capture, not just the highlighted Pokemon.
Lure Modules, as expected, will endure for a lengthy amount of time. Any that you use during the event will be active for three hours instead of the standard 30 minutes.
Shiny Variant
Niantic seldom confirms the shiny possibility until after the event has begun, so keep a watch out for shining Trapinch while hunting. They've appeared at every previous Community Day event, so we fully anticipate to see them on
Saturday the 3rd.
That's all we know at this moment! More Pokemon GO details will be provided as the event approaches. Until then, trainers, best of luck!
Pokemon GO is now available on Android and iOS smartphones in certain locations.
